The February Edition of Roofing Contractor’s eMagazine features the 2025 Edition of RC’s annual State of the Industry Report, and, as always, it is a must read for industry pros.

Roofing Contractor Releases 2025 State of the Industry Report

The 2025 report surveyed roofing contractors nationwide last fall when many corners of the country were dealing with some devastating natural disasters including the unprecedented damage from Hurricane Milton, the second-most powerful Atlantic hurricane ever recorded over the Gulf of America.

Despite those storms and uncertainty over the outcome of the presidential election, commercial and roofing contractors expressed growing optimism over a whole host of issues ranging from supply chain and enhanced training to new service offerings and emerging technology.

For those attending the IRE next week in San Diego, Trent Cotney of Adams & Reese will present “Deep Dive: State of the Industry 2025” on Wednesday, February 19 at 8:15. For those unable to attend, RC will host a deep dive webinar with Trent Cotney on February 27.

A Georgia-based fintech company has teamed up with a Florida-based claims platform specifically designed for the storm restoration industry in an effort to bridge the gap in roofing claims

This week Sandy Springs-based Momnt announced a partnership with Hallandale Beach-based Your Virtual Adjuster (YVA) to address a critical challenge facing roofing contractors: Reaching a wider customer base by offering a complete solution that includes both insurance claims management and flexible financing options.

What Is The Future For Asphalt Shingles In Florida?

In December, Florida Insurance Commissioner Mike Yaworsky made headlines attending a Chamber of Commerce Insurance Summit in Orlando when he said, “It’s probably time to look past asphalt shingles. They don’t last for 30 years in Florida. They just don’t.”

Is It Time To Look Past Asphalt Shingles In Florida?

Today, six weeks after those original comments, Orlando’s Channel 6 News posed the question, “What’s Next for Asphalt Shingles in Florida?” directly to Commissioner Yaworsky in an interview that covers several pressing issues for homeowners and roofing contractors alike.

On the positive side, last week the Governor’s Office announced that 11 new insurance companies have entered the Florida market, 60% of Florida’s top 10 carriers have expanded their business, and 40% have filed for rate decreases.

This month, the Metal Roofing Alliance, seized on the wave of contractor and homeowner speculation prompted by Yaworksy’s comments above, and issued a press release highlighting the wave of rising consumer demand for metal roofs.

Asphalt Shingles Are So 2015 is the headline of the MRA’s not-so-subtle salvo aimed at asphalt shingles which remain the most preferred roofing material in both the U.S. and Canada.

      • What are the biggest benefits of metal roofs?
      • What styles are available? Will it match my home’s architecture?
      • What about drawbacks like noise?
      • What about costs? Are metal roofs a lot more expensive?

The report also addresses the other major concern for coastal and inland residents still reeling from the 2024 Hurricane Season:

“In hurricane, tornado and thunderstorm regions, metal roofs are the gold standard for protecting a home. When installed properly, metal roofs are rated to stand up to F2 tornado wind speeds (113-157 mph). – Metal Roofing Alliance
