CII's Ken Kelly Shares His Exit Journey With Roofing Contractor
CII Trades Technical Expert Ken Kelly is featured this month on the Best of Success Podcast Show on RoofingContractor.com recorded during the just completed 2024 Western Roofing Expo in Las Vegas.
Ken Kelly’s ‘Retirement’ from Roofing is the title of the one-on-one conversation between Ken and Roofing Contractor Editor-in-Chief Art Aisner. The quotes around “Retirement” are a clear indication that Ken’s new chapter in life post-Kelly Roofing has been absolutely packed with new opportunities, global adventures and consulting engagements nationwide with Certified Contractors Network and Owens Corning.
In the interview, Ken sheds light on the valuable lessons he learned during the process of selling his business and describes how his current role as an advisor is geared toward helping other owners learn how to maximize the value of their enterprise and help them prepare for an eventual exit whether that will be to a family member to a strategic buyer or to private equity.
In addition to the Best of Success podcast, Ken is currently writing a six-part series for Roofing Contractor that will take a deeper dive into the process of helping other owners prepare for their own “retirement” and their next chapter of freedom and prosperity.

Gulf Western Roofing Celebrates 25 Years Of Excellence
This week Gulf Western Roofing, a leading provider of roofing repair solutions across Central and Southwest Florida, is celebrating 25 years of business.
Gulf Western made the announcement this week noting that the company, founded by President and CEO Joseph K. Lamb, Jr. in Florida in 1999, has grown exponentially from a small operation to a thriving business with more than 200 employees.
Gulf Western’s milestone is doubly impressive given the competitive nature of the roofing industry in Florida, as well as the fact that only about 25% of companies make it beyond 15 years and a mere 12% of companies make it beyond 25 years, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The Gulf Western story and the Lamb family’s journey from Washington D.C. to Davie, Boca Raton and eventually Naples is inspirational and definitely worth reading on their website. Other growth-minded roofing contractors can also benefit by reading the company’s Mission and Core Values on the same page.
