University of Miami's B.S.N. Program Retains #1 Ranking

The Bachelor of of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) Program at the University of Miami remains the top-ranked B.S.N. program at a private institution in Florida, according to the new edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges” listing of Best Undergraduate Nursing Programs. 

Out of 686 accredited B.S.N. programs surveyed in the annual report, the University of Miami’s B.S.N. Program was named Florida’s top private nursing school and the No. 13 top private nursing school in the country

Founded in 1948, the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies is one of the region’s oldest and largest nursing schools with close to 1,500 students enrolled in its various baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral programs.

Georgia State's School of Nursing Rises 59 Spots

Georgia State’s School of Nursing (SON) was one of the biggest movers this year in U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges” listing of Best Undergraduate Nursing Programs. The SON rose 59 spots to No. 74 in the 2025 USN&W Report. 

According to the official press release, “The SON program was the second ranked undergraduate program in Georgia, behind Emory University, and nationally, only three other programs among the top 100 jumped more spots from their previous rank.”

Two other programs at GSU’s Byrdine F. Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions also made big leaps forward in the 2025 ranking.  The Doctor of Physical  Therapy (DPT) Program moved up from No. 71 in 2020 to No. 58 this year, while the Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) Program rose from No. 108 in 2020 to No. 65 this year.

Tampa General & Mass General Brigham Expand Partnership

This month Tampa General Hospital (TGH) and Mass General Brigham (MGB), two of the nation’s leading health care systems, announced an expansion of their affiliation with the development of several new programs and services

TGH and MGB have worked for three years together developing a bone marrow transplant program which will now be housed in a brand new, state-of-the-art unit and managed by best-in-class cancer specialists. Through the program, patients have access to CAR T-cell therapy, a cancer immunotherapy that uses a patient’s own T cells to fight cancer.

The two organizations are also growing their health care services to support Florida’s veterans and service members through Home Base Florida

In the official announcement, Tampa General President & CEO John Couris explained the significance of the expansion of the affiliation between the two health care networks: 

“This collaboration formalizes the long-standing relationship between Tampa General and Mass General Brigham. As we look ahead, we’re aiming to build a greater presence in the state of Florida, where patients can not only benefit from the exchange of knowledge, but also the best-in-class providers of both networks.” – John Couris

Georgia Cancer Center Using AI To Diagnose, Treat Lung Cancer

Oncologists at the Georgia Cancer Center are now using Artificial Intelligence to streamline diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer patients, according to an article this week on the Augusta University website

Author Chris Curry says the team of physicians at the Georgia Cancer Center have now integrated the Optellum Virtual Nodule Clinic into their practice which has dramatically accelerated the process for patients who must often wait several months for new imaging, diagnosis and treatment.

Baptist Health Leading Landmark Miami Heart Study

World Heart Day is an annual event designed to increase awareness of the importance of heart disease prevention, detection and treatment.

In recognition of the World Heart Day on September 29, Baptist Health shines the spotlight on some of the groundbreaking research being performed at the health care system’s Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute (MC&VI)

According to the official press release, the Baptist Health MC&VI is leading the landmark Miami Heart Study, or MiHeart, launched in 2015 by teams at the Institute. Baptist Health explains why the MiHeart study is so unique:

“Medical experts and professional organizations are keeping a close eye on the unique, diverse population being studied — more than 2,500 asymptomatic volunteers from South Florida, aged 40-65. The study is innovative on many fronts, including the focus on such a large group of individuals free of established cardiovascular disease or symptoms when recruited.”

In addition to the MiHeart study, Baptist Health points to the leading role that the MC&VI has taken “in national clinical trials that have led to pivotal advances in treating or replacing heart valves and improving outcomes of other cardiovascular therapies and procedures.”
