15 Florida & Georgia Hospitals Receive Patient Excellence Award
Healthgrades has announced the winners of the 2024 Outstanding Patient Excellence Award which includes 15 hospitals in Florida and Georgia.
The annual Healthgrades report evaluates patient experiences based on 10 measures using data collected from surveys of each hospital’s own patients.
Patients are invited to complete a 29-question survey within 48 hours to six weeks after leaving the hospital. The 32 questions are rolled up to provide 10 measures, which together provide a snapshot of each patient’s experience.
The four Georgia hospitals earning patient excellence honors in this year’s Healthgrades report in alphabetical order were:

- Memorial Health Meadows Hospital (2024, 2023)
- Northside Hospital Cherokee (2024, 2023, 2022)

AdventHealth Performs 3 Groundbreaking Cardiovascular Procedures
This week Orlando-based AdventHealth announced that physicians have performed three groundbreaking cardiovascular procedures in their Central Florida hospitals over the past three months.
The first-in-Central Florida procedure was the first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure performed by Dr. Rodrigo Do Lago and Dr. Jorge Suarez. The TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure that replaces the need for open heart surgery.
The second groundbreaking procedure was the inaugural Pulse Field Ablation (PFA) procedure performed by Dr. Naushad Sheik. PFA is a promising new treatment for atrial fibrillation (AFib) patients. PFA delivers short-duration electrical pulses to the cardiac tissue instead of the more traditional heat.
The third procedure was the first commercial renal denervation procedure performed in Central Florida by Dr. Mark Steiner. The CRDP is another minimally invasive solution which uses radio frequency on nerves in the kidney which can cause hypertension.
Metro Atlanta Hospital Becomes A Level 1 Trauma Hospital
A Metro Atlanta hospital is now a Level 1 Trauma Center, according to an official press release.
“Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center has achieved the prestigious Level I Trauma Center verification from the American College of Surgeons and designation from the Georgia Department of Public Health State Office of EMS and Trauma. The ACS verification is the gold standard for trauma centers nationwide.”
Level I verification requires consistently delivering a high level of clinical expertise for a wide range of severe injuries at all times, and further improves patient outcomes through trauma research and education. Prior to this announcement, Grady Hospital was the only Level 1 Trauma Center in Metro Atlanta.

North Georgia Hospital Deploys Germ Zapping Robots
A North Georgia hospital has acquired germ-zapping robots to combat the pathogens that may have been missed during manual cleaning.
This week Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton announced that the 255-bed regional acute-care hospital has added the LightStrikeTM+ device to its arsenal for killing superbugs which are becoming increasingly resistant to cleaning chemicals, antibiotics and even some hand sanitizers.
The LightStrikeTM+ is the only whole room microbial reduction medical devices authorized by the FDA to be marketed and distributed in the United States. The manufacturer, Texas-based Xenex, received FDA approval in late 2023.
At the time of the authorization, Xenex officials said “the LightStrike+ robot is the first and only product of its type, setting the precedent for FDA regulation of UV robots intended for use in reducing pathogens on non-porous, high-touch surfaces in the healthcare environment.”
