
Orlando Health To Purchase Brookwood Baptist Health
Orlando Health, one of Florida’s largest private healthcare organizations, has signed a definitive agreement to purchase Tenet Healthcare’s majority interest in Brookwood Baptist Health, one of the largest healthcare systems in Alabama.
Orlando Health CEO David Strong voiced enthusiasm over becoming a majority and managing partner of Brookwood Baptist Health which consists of five hospitals in Central Alabama with over 1,700 beds, more than 70 primary and specialty care clinics, 1,500 affiliated physicians and 7,300 employees.

In the official press release, Orlando Health announced that current Senior Vice President of the Southeast Region and President of Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, Thibaut van Marcke, will lead Orlando Health’s efforts in Alabama.
Orlando Health currently serves the southeastern United States and Puerto Rico. Headquartered in Orlando, the system has an estimated $10.5 billion of assets under management.
SGMC Health Becomes Level 1 Emergency Cardiac Care Center
This week SGMC Health announced that the Valdosta-based, not-for-profit medical system achieved the major milestone of becoming a Level 1 Emergency Cardiac Care Center (ECCC).
Level I is the highest recognition given by the Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH) underscoring SGMC Health’s commitment to providing exceptional cardiac care and enhancing the health and well-being of the communities they serve at campuses in Valdosta, Nashville and Lakeland.
According to the official press release, SGMC Health has implemented several innovative cardiac procedures in recent years including Impella heart pumps and Watchman Implant devices. In addition, SGMC Health recently launched a Structural Heart Center and achieved Level III Trauma Center status.
With 418 licensed beds and more than 600 providers and 2,900 employees, SGMC Health, its campuses, and its affiliates provide a broad range of high-quality healthcare services. SGMC Health is located in Valdosta and serves 400,000 residents across a 15-county service area.
Moffitt Named #1 Cancer Center In The Southeast
This week Moffitt Cancer Center announced that the Tampa-based network has been named the #1 Cancer Center in the Southeast by Newsweek in their 2024 list of America’s Best Cancer Hospitals.
The Newsweek ranking of best cancer centers in the country is determined through a comprehensive evaluation process that includes input from healthcare professionals, hospital quality metrics and patient experience surveys.
In addition to the Newsweek accolade, Moffitt Cancer Center is the only Florida-based National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Moffift operates multiple patient treatment facilities and research centers across the Tampa Bay area, Wesley Chapel and Pembroke Pines. Moffitt’s research facilities are located primarily within the University of South Florida (USF) campus.

Georgia Hospital Named America's Most Beautiful
Soliant Health, a leading national provider of healthcare jobs and staffing services, has released their annual ranking of the Most Beautiful Hospitals in America, and four Georgia hospitals received enough votes to land in the Top 20.
In fact, Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia received almost 350,000 votes to claim the title of the Most Beautiful Hospital in the country. According to Soliant, over 1.4 million votes were cast online for the 12th annual edition of this ranking.
In all, Georgia hospitals nabbed four spots in the Top 20, a record-setting number for any state in the history of the award. The other three Georgia hospitals were:
- 7. Northeast Georgia Health System (Braselton)
- 8. Upson Regional Medical Center (Thomaston)
- 13. Northside Hospital Cherokee (Canton)

UF Health Transplant Program Named Best In Florida
UF Health’s lung, liver and kidney transplant programs have been named the best in Florida and the fifth-best program in the country according to a new nationwide ranking.
The Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) evaluates transplant centers across the United States every six months using a multi-tier assessment that measures several factors including:
- Patient survival on the waiting list,
- The time it takes a patient to get a transplant, and
- One-year organ survival following surgery
In addition to the top spot in Florida, UF Health performed very well nationally. According to SRTR’s latest ranking, UF Health Shands ranked number one nationally for liver transplants, number two for kidney transplants, and number four for lung transplants.
According to the official press release, UF Health’s Transplant Program is also distinguished by its high survival rates. The program has achieved one-year patient survival rates of 95% which ranks #4 nationwide.
And when it comes to three-year patient survival rates UF Health ranks #3 in the country with a survival rate of 84%.
