Consultants Identify 4 Sites For New Naples Airport

Naples could have a new airport one day in the very distant future and geographically very distant from the current airport which sits less than a mile from Fifth Avenue and the Gulf of Mexico.

This week environmental consulting firm ESA presented its shortlist of 4 potential sites for a new Naples Airport to the Naples Airport Authority and, as expected, all of the options are located in less densely populated areas of Collier County

Each of the four sites presented appear to encompass 2,400 acres of land or 3.75 square miles which is approximately twice the area of the current Naples Airport sandwiched between Airport-Pulling and Goodlette-Frank Roads.

Each ESA site map indicates population density in a 5-mile radius around each proposed site today and in 2040, the earliest that a new Naples Airport would potentially open if FAA approval is received.

Kendall Little at the Naples Daily-News says the three biggest reasons for a potential relocation to a new Naples Airport are noise complaints, space constraints, and the possibility of adding commercial flights. (Full Story
