Sheltair Melbourne Begins Construction Of T-Hangar Complex
One of the nation’s largest providers of aviation FBO services has commenced construction on a new GA T-Hangar Complex at Melbourne International Airport (MLB).
Sheltair Aviation just broke ground on a massive, 34,500-square-foot complex that will feature 30 T-hangars able to accommodate both single and light twin aircraft. The new facility is being built on a 4.5 acre parcel of apron space at MLB.

In the official announcement, Sheltair COO Todd Anderson said the new Melbourne facility was long overdue for a coastal Florida market that is thriving thanks to the private space exploration along the Space Coast.
“The ability to accommodate an additional 30 smaller aircraft with new t-hangar facilities will be an invaluable asset to our Melbourne operation. As the region’s businesses thrive, so does the airport. We’re dedicated to meeting its needs every step of the way.” – Sheltair COO Todd Anderson
Construction of the new Sheltair Melbourne T-Hanagar Complex is expected to last 15 months which would mean a grand opening in late 2025.

Ocean Aviation Plans $67 Million FBO Facility At Miami Airport
The South Florida luxury FBO arena just got a bit more luxurious when Ocean Aviation’s unveiled plans for a new $67 million FBO facility to be built at Miami Executive Airport (TMB) west of Kendall.
ConnectCRE’s Mike Boyd writes that the sprawling Ocean Aviation campus is being designed by Arquitectonica and will feature over two dozen aircraft hangars and over 1 acre of aircraft parking at Miami Executive Airport.
Miami-based architecture firm, Studio Khora, describes the new project as an “architectural masterpiece that promises to revolutionize the luxury air travel experience.”
“Design-wise, the project champions a white color palette, transparency, and light, creating an environment that feels both open and inviting. This FBO is not just about luxury; it’s about creating a sense of place that encourages pilots, travelers, and jet owners to linger and enjoy.” – Studio Khora
Similar to Orlando International Airport’s next phase, Ocean Aviation’s new Miami facility will also include an eVTOL vertiport which will be another important step in building out the air taxi network across the Sunshine State.
Georgia Pilots' Startup Seeks To Address Hangar Shortage
Two enterprising Georgia pilots have launched a startup that seeks to address the shortage of quality aircraft storage beginning in their home state and hopefully well beyond.
Steve Jordan and Thomas Richter started Planecave with the goal of “entering into public/private partnerships with airport authorities to develop public-owned land for everyone’s benefit.”
Grant Boyd wrote a very interesting article in this week’s Flying which takes a closer look at the Planecave backstory and the company’s first new hangar development project that is underway at Columbia Gorge Regional Airport in Augusta.
According to the Planecave website, the new 42′ wide hangars in Augusta will fit almost every single engine plane on the market. The new hangars can be purchased for $250,000 or rented at rates beginning at $500 per month.
"World's Next Great Airport City" Emerges In Orlando
An article in this month’s Site Selection magazine shines the spotlight on what is quickly emerging as the world’s next great airport city.
The authors say the 37-square-mile area encompassing Orlando International Airport and the neighboring “smart city” of Lake Nona is the blueprint for how to develop a global gateway with a booming metropolis centered around innovation, technology and sustainability.
The authors credit the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) for laying out the vision which now includes high-speed rail with Brightline, the airport’s new Terminal C, planned eVTOL development and long overdue renovations of Terminals A and B.
Read more about the shared vision to see why GOAA and Lake Nona officials believe “All Roads Lead to the Airport City.”
