“The new service offering which extends from Port of Miami to Charlotte builds upon the strong partnership between the two railroads, which continues to allow customers to unlock new supply chain pathways.”

“The partnership relies on a steel wheel interchange in Jacksonville, operating in both directions and expanding services for customers accessing global markets through South Florida.”

Second Phase of Florida Intermodal Service Expansion

Today’s announcement was the second major piece of news regarding NSC and FEC collaboration and intermodal service expansion in six months.

In October of 2023, the two companies announced the expansion of their domestic intermodal interline services for customers doing business in Florida

That move expanded intermodal service to include FEC’s Fort Pierce and Fort Lauderdale intermodal terminals which complemented existing service to FEC terminals in Titusville and Miami.

Florida East Coast Railway is ready to reach additional markets on the East and West Coasts of the United States by furthering its strong relationship with Norfolk Southern,” said Luis Hernández, VP Intermodal – FEC. “It is a good time to work together to enhance the advantages that FEC offers to access strategic cities in the U.S.

A Textile Link From Central America to the Carolinas

The Florida Express Service is already having a impact on delivery times and supply chain efficiency in the increasingly international textile industry here in the Americas.

NSC says that Jacksonville-based Crowley Maritime is tapping the Florida Express to help customers in the US, Central America, and the Caribbean Basin.

North Carolina currently leads the nation with nearly 20 percent of all US textile exports, the largest textile mill industry, and more than 395 textile manufacturers.

“Through Florida Express, textile industry customers can receive enhanced supply chain efficiency, connecting our growing Central America market with US manufacturing centers such as North Carolina,” said Crowley’s Vice President, North American Transportation Bob Weist.
