A New Lawn & Landscape Webinar Sponsored by WAC Lighting
This week Lawn & Landscape hosted a very informative one-hour webinar with industry pros who shone a brilliant Mini Wall Wash 12V Dual Select 3000K fixture on the rapidly evolving world of landscape lighting technology and the many possibilities this evolution is opening up for home and business owners nationwide.
Todd Goers, the Director of Landscape Lighting Sales for New York-based WAC Lighting hosted the fast-paced webinar discussion with Spencer Freiman of Outdoor Lighting Concepts, Larry Baca of Image Outdoor Living and Dan Wasson of Wasson Nursery.
They May Like The Hardscape, But They Will Love The Lighting
All three participants offered unique takes and tips for how to maximize the lighting component of any outdoor transformation project where hardscape may be the primary focus, but the lighting is what clients consistently rave about.
Larry Baca said he got started in landscape lighting 12 years ago while working at a hardscape company in Southern California. Larry quickly realized that the lighting was the installation component that clients always raved about.
“I kept getting feedback from clients that my hardscape is great, but we really love our lights. So I started my own company with the goal of hearing every customer say, ‘I Love My Lights.'” – Larry Baca
Dan Wasson echoed Larry’s sentiment adding that clients really seem to enjoy their outdoor spaces the most in the evening. He added that it’s unfortunate that installers are never there in the evening to truly appreciate how much clients enjoy their properties at night. He said his 47-year-old family business added landscape lighting in 2002 and never looked back.
Wasson also touched on the sustainable aspect of the new landscape lighting technology noting that they have cut down on waste by eliminating so many product SKUs given how adjustable the new fixtures are. Spencer Freiman took it a step further by noting how the new fixtures eliminate the need for installers to constantly be carrying and replacing the old MR16 bulbs which were first sold in 1965.
Freiman added that he likes the fact that landscape lighting gives him the ability to be creative adding that his passion for lighting has only grown with each passing year thanks in large part to the evolving technology that lets him consistently dazzle clients with his ability to skillfully illuminate everything from pathways to palm trees.
Unprecedented Levels of Control For Installers and Clients
Besides creativity, the other C-word that all three industry pros kept repeating was “control” and specifically the unprecedented level of control that the new technology like WAC lighting gives both the contractor and the end user.
For someone like Freiman it means being able control the beam spread and the brightness of each fixture. Without exaggeration, he says having these features and the adjustability they offer can turn a relatively new installer into an instant pro.
And from the end-user standpoint, he says clients love the fact that each light can be controlled individually which is the “big sell” on colorscaping. He points out that clients hate putting up and taking down Christmas decorations every year. But now they can easily adjust their colorscape on the app and celebrate every single holiday from Valentine’s Day to New Year’s Eve.
And speaking of control, clients can even go as far as to input the Pantone color codes of their favorite teams like the Miami Dolphins to celebrate every gameday and evening from pre-season to the Playoffs.
Pro Tips For Maximizing Landscape Lighting Installations
Unlike many industry webinars that feel like an infomercial or rote regurgitation of bullet points on a slide deck, the interaction between the host and participants in this Lawn & Landscape webinar was very animated and really highlighted some great tips and tricks that novice landscape lighting installers can benefit from.
Everything from fish sticks and sod staples to 10 gauge wire and triangulation are addressed at length in two separate discussions around optimizing performance of landscape lighting fixtures and professional tips for enhancing your installation techniques.
