Hyundai's Georgia Metaplant Will Begin Production in 4Q24
Hyundai has announced that the official launch date of production at its new multi-billion-dollar Georgia facility has been moved up to the fourth quarter of this year.
Construction on the massive Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) is ongoing, and things are progressing so well that the company is moving the start date up from early 2025 to the end of 2024.
Hyundai Motor Group is investing $7.59 billion to develop HMGMA, which will create 8,500 direct jobs. Additionally, Hyundai and SK On are building a $5 billion EV battery cell plant in Bartow County, Georgia that will employ 3,500 workers.

“2024 is going to be a great year for HMGMA,” said Oscar Kwon, president and CEO, HMGMA. “This is the largest economic development project in Georgia’s history, and we have been moving at a rapid speed.”
“Completing a project of this scale on this timeline has been a challenge, but our team has delivered amazing results. We owe a lot of this to the hard work of our Meta Pros and the continued support and cooperation of our state and local partners, including the Savannah Harbor-Interstate 16 Joint Development Authority,” said Kwon.
What Cars Will Hyundai Produce at the Georgia Metaplant?
The $5.54 billion Georgia investment by Hyundai and its affiliate suppliers was announced in May 2022 and includes plans to produce a diverse range of innovative Hyundai, Genesis and Kia electric vehicles (EVs), as well a new battery manufacturing facility northwest of Atlanta in Bartow County.
Even before production begins, the HMGMA project and the EV battery cell plant are creating thousands of jobs, as Hyundai aims to establish a stable supply chain for EV battery and other EV components in the U.S. market.
With the additional EV and battery production capabilities in the U.S., the Group aims to maintain its position as one of the top three EV providers in the U.S. The Group plans to lead the EV market not just in sales, but also in terms of design, technologies, and mobility solutions optimized for the electric mobility era.
Georgia "Like A Second Home" To Hyundai
The collaboration between Hyundai and the State of Georgia has been evident from Day One with both camps acknowledging the spirit of partnership and support behind this megaproject.
“Georgia is like a second home to us,” said José Muñoz, president and global COO, Hyundai Motor Company, and president and CEO, Hyundai and Genesis Motor North America.
“On behalf of all of us at Hyundai Motor Group, we are very proud that Hyundai’s investments in Georgia will create tens of thousands of great paying American jobs and bring tens of billions of dollars in economic impact for decades to come.”
