Hyatt To Debut The Andaz Brand In South Florida

Andaz To Open In Miami Beach In Late 2024

Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) today announced that the company’s first Andaz brand hotel will officially open in Miami Beach later this year.

The Andaz brand, which Hyatt describes as empowering self-expression and stimulating guests’ curiosity through imaginative travel for a distinctively local experience, is more of a global brand at this point than an American brand.

There are currently 29 Andaz hotels around the world with the majority being located in Middle East markets like Abu Dhabi and Dubai as well as Asian markets like Macau, Singapore and Xiamen.

A Total Transformation of The Confidante Miami Beach

The new Andaz Miami Beach is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2024 following a months-long transformation of The Confidante Miami Beach located at 4041 Collins Avenue.

The Confidante Miami Beach is owned by Sunstone Hotel Investors, a California-based group whose portfolio consists of 14 distinctive luxury properties across the country. In Florida, Sunstone owns The Confidante, The Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld and the Oceans Edge Resort  & Marina in Key West

With Andaz Miami Beach, Hyatt envisions a total transformation of the existing Confidante Hotel with “a barrier-free redesigned lobby, two reconceptualized pools and outdoor recreation (areas), an exhilarating spa, inspiring guestrooms, suites and meeting spaces, and immersive dining experiences with the hotel’s new culinary provider, José Andrés Group.

Rich Archtiectural History Dating Back to 1940

The Confidante Miami Beach has a rich architectural history in South Florida having been the first modern skyscraper built on Miami Beach. The hotel was constructed in the late 1930’s prior to opening its doors as the Lord Tarleton Hotel in 1940.

Upon opening, The Lord Tarleton Hotel was described as “the only hotel ever built where every guest enjoys a corner room that invites the soothing breezes from two expansive exposures.”

The Lord Tarleton was the first of many hotels that would open on Miami Beach’s “Hotel Row” in the 1940’s including the Cadillac Hotel (1940), the Versailles Hotel (1941), and the Atlantic Towers Hotel (1941).

Now, 84 years since the Lord Tarleton Hotel first opened its doors, Hyatt will close the doors on the iconic beachfront property on March 25, 2024 to “temporarily suspend operations” for the property renovation and eventual launch of the Andaz Miami Beach later this year.

“This exciting journey brings the luxury lifestyle Andaz brand to Florida. We look forward to welcoming back our guests and local community to a completely new and bold hotel, embodying the distinctly native experience and expressive nature of the Andaz brand, while still capturing the essence of Miami Beach.”  -Andaz Miami Beach GM Amy Johnson.

Andaz Miami Beach Scheduled To Open February 2025

In their third quarter 2024 earnings press release, Sunstone Hotel Investors indicated that the Andaz Miami Beach is scheduled to open in February 2025.

“The Company has revised its completion schedule and now anticipates that Andaz Miami Beach will debut in February 2025 and that the total net investment will be approximately $95 million. The revised timeline and budget reflect weather and permitting delays that have impacted the pace and total cost of the project.

The Company continues to expect that Andaz Miami Beach will drive significant earnings growth in 2025 and beyond as the well-located resort realizes the benefit of the renovation.”
