NGA Campaign To Attract Future Glaziers
The new issue of Glass Magazine, the official publication of the National Glass Association, is out this week, and it tackles the biggest challenge facing the industry today: Labor.

The opening editorial from Glass Editor-in-Chief Katy Devlin does not sugar coat the issue. On the contrary, she says that “labor is the number one challenge for (glass) fabricators, glaziers, and glass companies. It is the biggest pain point for the glass industry.”
In an effort to tackle the challenge head on, the NGA has developed a clever and comprehensive campaign to help industry players begin the process of reaching out to local schools and identifying future talent.

As we read in yesterday’s Florida manufacturing report, the outreach needs to begin at the high school level. At that age, Devlin says, high school kids have a pretty good idea what an electrician and a plumber do…but not a glazier.
That is about to change thanks to a free, downloadable Guide to Recruiting at High School Fairs developed by the NGA, as well as a variety of other resources like postcards and G.O.A.T. stickers that established glass professionals can begin to use to identify and attract talent at the high school level.

A Glazier's Guide To Recruiting At High School Fairs
The NGA Guide to Recruiting at High School Fairs walks glass professionals step-by-step through the process of tapping into local high schools and participating in local career fairs where seniors are looking for immediate employment and younger students are beginning the process of exploring future career options.
The marketing campaign and deliverables that glass professionals can download for free and/or purchase for on-site recruitment at high school career fairs speak directly with clear facts about what glaziers do.

The campaign should resonate with high school students who like to use their hands and brains while earning a good salary and improving people’s homes, businesses and quality of life in the process.

The current issue of Glass Magazine also has an informative article titled, Recruiting Young Talent in the Glass Industry, which focuses on the outreach efforts of two established glass companies that have found a new generation of workers at the high school level.
