Danfoss Turbocor Opens $62 Million Plant In Tallahassee

New Florida Plant Doubles Compressor Production

HVAC compressor manufacturer, Danfoss, just held a ribbon cutting for their new, state-of-the-art production facility in Tallahassee. 

The Danish company, a global leader in the production of oil-free compressors for a variety of industries and applications, unveiled the new $62 million, 145,000 square foot manufacturing facility with a VIP gathering including Danfoss CEO Kim Fausing, Leon County officials and other invited dignitaries.

Fausing explained the significance of the new facility in terms of ramping up compressor production and being able to better serve the company’s global customers. 

“The increased production will help meet the growing market demand for cooling and heating high-efficiency compressors in North America, Europe and Asia. Currently, North America is the largest market and region for Danfoss, with 34 sites, and we couldn’t be prouder of this latest chapter in Turbocor’s growth.” – Danfoss CEO Kim Fausing

An Inflection Point for Capacity and Sustainability

The opening of the new Danfoss Turbocor manufacturing facility in Tallahassee comes about 30 months after the initial groundbreaking in the fall of 2021. The chosen site is centrally located in an emerging industrial area just south of the FSU campus

At the time, the company anticipated relocating compressor lines from its existing, 70,000 square foot facility including the company’s VTX line and two TT/TG lines for Danfoss’ Turbocor compressors. The boost in capacity was described by President Ricardo Schneider as “an inflection point.”

The company also said ramping up production was “fully aligned with the push from Danfoss’ key customers to drive high energy efficiency and sustainability within the global HVAC-R industry.”

A Global Leader In Oil-Free Compressor Technology

Danfoss is a leading manufacturer of oil-free compressors and is the pioneer of the Danfoss Turbocor® compressor – the world’s first oil-free magnetic bearing compressor for the HVAC industry.

Danfoss employees at the new Tallahassee production facility will be manufacturing the four compressor models pictured below: the TGS, the TTS, the TTH/TGH, and the VTX line. Each compressor is available in multiple models ranging from 40 to 200 tons (700 kW), while the VTX line which is designed for evaporative cooled chiller applications  is available up to 450 tons (1,600 kW).
